Why this pair feels inconsistent

The opening post in the Steam Lumberjacks discussion reports repeated losses before week four and difficulty finding a score engine. Other players in the same thread describe wins, including one who largely ignored Frontier. The practical question is not whether the pair is universally weak; it is whether your current offers support an early scoring route or a later resource loop.

Route A: let Industrial carry the early run

  1. Weeks one and two: score with the reliable Industrial pieces offered. One commenter reports that the hardest stretch is before the next milestone, especially without early Outposts.
  2. When Toolshed becomes available: Doombringer pairs it with quarries, mines or lumbermills. Keep nearby tiles available so producers can make new resources.
  3. Clear the output: the reported engine needs something to eat or remove resources; otherwise newly generated pieces occupy the space needed for later triggers.
  4. Only extend when offered: the commenter names Depot and Workshop as powerful upgrades, but a run need not wait for both to begin scoring.

This is a single player's tested route, not a verified universal unlock schedule. Read your current card text and milestone offers before planning around a specific arrival week.

Route B: connect Sawmill to Frontier healing and rerolls

Danknight reports an alternate Frontier-heavy setup in a September 21–22 reply. They used remote Hunting Camps to bridge the first weeks, then put a Ghost-painted Sawmill near a Lumberyard, Herbalists and multiple Herb Gardens. In that player's run, repeated healing triggers generated rerolls; they added Lamppost and later Witch's Hut or Shrine when available.

Build this only if the relevant terrain and cards appear. It has more moving parts than the Industrial-first route, and the player explicitly describes it as a strong run rather than a guaranteed infinite loop. If you are learning the trigger geometry, consult range versus adjacency before committing limited placement space.

What to check when the score stalls

  • Is there empty space in the producer's operating area for another resource?
  • Do you have an actual payoff for creating or removing that resource, rather than two cards that merely mention resources?
  • Did you spend the early weeks waiting for a rare engine while missing the current milestone score?
  • Can the run pivot to one Guild's proven scoring pieces instead of forcing both Guilds to contribute equally?

The thread contains contradictory player results, so there is no honest guaranteed-win order to follow. Use the routes as a shortlist of pieces to watch for, then adapt to the live offers.
