1. Choose pure income or an unlock route

Gold is a flexibility resource. Demo v9 officially documented quest refreshes with increasing costs and reduced shop dismissal from 5 Gold to 3. The full-release interface also includes selling, shops and Council votes. Spending without a target can leave you short when a milestone request appears.

A September Steam discussion gives the clearest current answer to the general money question: the player recommends Industrial as the strongest money maker, with Maritime and Commercial close behind. That is a useful full-release route, but it is one community report rather than an official balance ranking.

  • Need a specific councillor or heirloom: reserve Gold for shop and vote access.
  • Trying to unlock Rogue: stop optional spending when the 75-Gold Spymaster request appears.
  • Trying to unlock Arcane: keep enough Gold to search for the gem container and complete the Wizard-vote route.

2. Use Commercial for Council and secret-Guild runs

Two independent Steam guides agree that Commercial is the reliable starting point for a Gold-focused unlock run. They differ on the best partner: one uses Civic with Commercial to lean into councillors and shop access; another uses Martial with Commercial so money-producing buildings can be triggered again after creation.

That disagreement is useful. Choose Civic + Commercial when the run depends on votes and Antiquarian access. Choose Martial + Commercial when the offered buildings reward repeat triggers. Neither recommendation is a universal tier ranking.

For score-focused rather than Gold-focused choices, compare the player-reported routes in the Guild combinations guide.

3. Build the Industrial removal loop when it appears

The same economy discussion describes Industrial as creating nature or resources, consuming them, and using a building that pays +1 Gold whenever nature or a resource is removed. The player also calls out the Ingot and Shears heirlooms for pure-money runs. These are current player observations, so check the live text before spending a reroll around them.

Do not reroll away a functioning route just to chase a perfect list. Build around the income Guild and effects already offered, then preserve enough Gold for the next shop, vote or milestone decision.

4. Convert removal into Gold when the pieces appear

The cleanest documented two-building loop is Composter + Manure. Demo v9 says Composter automatically removes adjacent Manure and Manure grants +1 Gold when removed. The exact value is tied to that demo version, but the interaction remains the best source-backed example of turning placement and removal into currency.

5. Treat councillor votes as an investment

The detailed Rogue/Arcane guide says the Merchant councillor can turn a 3-Gold vote purchase into 5 Gold, while repeated Antiquarian votes improve the chance of finding the Arcane gem container and more gems. Because these are community-tested full-release details rather than official patch notes, compare them with the live text in your build before committing the whole run.

6. Complete the 75-Gold Spymaster request

The Spymaster request asks for 75 Gold collected during a milestone. Completing it awards the Spymaster vote used to unlock the Rogue Guild. The important planning step is timing: build the economy first, then protect the milestone total instead of spending through it.

If the engine comes online late, one player reports that the request can still be completed during Endless mode. The same thread suggests holding sellable heirlooms or potions until the request appears, then converting them during the milestone. Treat both as community tactics rather than guaranteed rules for every save.

What this guide cannot promise

There is no complete official full-release Gold formula or ranked list of every economy building. Runs also depend on unlock state and random offers. This page gives a decision route supported by current public sources; it does not claim one fixed build can be forced every time.
